Veganism is not a weight-loss diet

Here we go!
Every time I tell people I'm vegan (not as often as you think ), they instinctively look at my waste line. And yes, I do not have a slim figure, I also have a bit of a double chin.
The brave ones, will follow the "look" with a "why are you not thin? I though all vegans were thin". And my immediate response is to ask them if they know that, potato chips, fries, candy(non-gelatinous) , oreos are all vegan. That is all junk foods which have little to no nutritional value. They are packed with sugar and ultra processed ingredients and high saturated fats. All key ingredients in any unhealthy eating lifestyle and will, if indulged in frequently and in large quantities result in weight gain.
The truth is, being vegan just eliminates animal products from one's diet. But it does not automatically result in a healthy lifestyle and weight-loss.
I personally get excited every time I discover a new vegan junk food. This, mixed with my obsessive personality, has resulted in over-indulging and ultimately to a less than slim waistline.
Vegans, like any other person, must still make healthy choices when deciding what to consume. We are not immune to the results of binge eating, junk food, processed foods etc.
There are lots of sub-classes of vegans; raw, organic, non-GMO, non-processed etc. Each with their own reasons for the route they've chosen.
My closing remarks, is that if one consumes everything close enough to its original form and does so in moderation, you are likely to be healthier than most.
